We've gathered the week's overseas companion robot news into one article, with the figures we could verify and their sources. Developments too small for a standalone article are covered here too.
This Week's Highlights
- China's online sales of "companion robots" in August 2026 reached about ¥1.24 billion (52.321 million yuan) and 105,000 units, up 34.0% and 37.9% month on month, respectively (data from research firm AVC, as reported) [1]
- China's AI pet and emotional companion device sector saw more than 20 investment deals over the past year (China Daily) [2]. Meanwhile, an expert points out that these products "have not moved beyond high-end toys" [2]
- In the US, the palm-sized four-legged robot "Q8botOne" has opened for backing on Crowd Supply (assembled unit about ¥95,000 / $599) [3]
- For the products above, we could not confirm any official announcement of sales in Japan, Japanese-language support, or Japan radio certification (Giteki) (as of Oct 12, 2026)
This week brought few major new product announcements big enough for standalone articles. Instead, Chinese sales data, views on the market, and a small US robot stood out. Here we cover three developments, sticking only to verified facts.
① China's August online sales: 105,000 units, +37.9% month on month
On October 10, 2026, Chinese business media reported on the August 2026 online market for "companion robots" based on data from research firm AVC (All View Cloud) [1]. The key figures are as follows [1].
- Overall market: online retail sales of about ¥1.24 billion (52.321 million yuan, +34.0% MoM), unit sales of 105,000 (+37.9% MoM). Unit growth outpaced revenue growth
- No. 1 by revenue share: Fuzozo: 11.1% share, revenue of about ¥140 million (5.816 million yuan), 13,000 units. Its share fell 2.6 points from July
- No. 2: ENABOT: 5.5% share, revenue of about ¥68 million (2.893 million yuan, +65.1% MoM), 3,126 units. Growth was reportedly driven by the whole-home mobile monitoring feature of its home robot "EBOSE"
- No. 3: Yuan Luobo (SenseRobot): 5.3% share, revenue of about ¥65 million (2.759 million yuan, +84.0% MoM), 871 units. Its lineup centers on products for learning board games such as Go and chess
- No. 1 single product: Chaoji Qiuqiu: an AI-powered companion robot for children. Launched on July 4, it reportedly became the top single product in its first full month, up 1,189.5% month on month
The article attributes the growth to back-to-school demand coinciding with the Qixi (Chinese Valentine's Day) gift season, which boosted educational companion products and AI-powered plush toys and keychains [1].
② The "AI pet" market: active investment, but also called "high-end toys"
On October 8, 2026, China Daily covered China's "AI pet" market [2]. The products and figures in the article are as follows [2].
- Fuzozo (Robopoet, Shanghai): about ¥9,400 (399 yuan). It has a free daily usage allowance, with charges beyond that. It comes in 5 colors with 5 personalities inspired by the Five Elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water
- iMoochi (Nubia): about ¥40,000 (1,699 yuan), or about ¥42,000 (1,778 yuan) with a cloud-shaped charging dock. It features voiceprint recognition and touch sensors on the head, back, nose, hands and feet, with 5 personality types
- Investment: Robopoet announced an angel round worth tens of millions of yuan in June 2026. China's AI toy and emotional companion device sector reportedly saw more than 20 investment deals over the past year (source: research firm Znkedu)
Meanwhile, Lin of Hangzhou City University points out that these products currently "have not moved beyond high-end toys," and that repurchase and long-term usage figures are insufficient [2]. The article also cites the lack of an established revenue model, such as subscriptions, as a challenge [2].
③ US: palm-sized four-legged robot "Q8botOne" opens for backing
ZeroWire Robotics (US) has opened backing for its open-source four-legged robot "Q8botOne" on Crowd Supply [3]. The assembled unit costs about ¥95,000 ($599) and the build kit about ¥31,000 ($199) (actuators sold separately), with shipping scheduled for March 24, 2027 [3]. For details, see our dedicated article.
Also, the prototype of "Home LEO," a dog-shaped robot for older people announced by Japan's Kawasaki Heavy Industries on October 6, 2026 (aiming for market launch in fiscal 2028), has been covered by overseas media [4]. As it is a Japanese manufacturer's announcement, please see our dedicated article for details.
