A premium plan adds three things: "conversation volume," "available features" and "repair coverage." The price gap varies widely by model and content—from a few hundred yen a month just to raise the conversation limit, to nearly ¥10,000 a month for generous repair coverage.
For example, Poketomo has four tiers from ¥495/month (400 conversations) to ¥3,300 (unlimited), while LOVOT ranges from ¥9,900 to ¥19,800 a month depending on the care plan. For the basics of whether a monthly fee is needed at all, see Models that need a monthly fee vs. models that don't.
A premium plan adds only "three things"

Plan names vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but what a premium plan adds falls into three types. Deciding first which one you actually want helps you avoid unnecessary spending.
The monthly number of conversations or the daily talk-time limit goes up. This type is common on models that process conversations with cloud AI.
You pay add-on fees per feature, such as monitoring, AI conversation or the robot starting conversations on its own. These are "added on top" of the base fee.
Repair discounts and coverage, regular checkups, parts replacement and the like become more generous. The more expensive the model, the bigger the price gap.
Conversation limits, and what happens when you use them up

For models whose price depends on conversation volume, how the limit is counted and what happens after you use it up differ from model to model.
| Model | Free / basic limit | Premium plan | When you exceed the limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 400 conversations/month for ¥495/month (no free tier) | ¥990 = 800 / ¥1,980 = 1,600 / ¥3,300 = unlimited | No conversations until the reset next month. No carryover | |
| Free up to 20 minutes a day | Up to 60 minutes a day with the Premium Companion Plan (¥29,600 including the device; ¥9,800 more than Basic) | — | |
| Conversation mode is paid only | Up to 5 hours/month for ¥300/month (requires a conversation model) | Conversation mode is unavailable for the rest of that month. Resets the next month | |
| Free up to 10 minutes a day | Standard US$100/year with no time limit / Pro US$200/year | Conversations end for that day | |
| Free tier: touch reactions, facial expressions and its own "Waka language" | AI voice conversation with Premium at ¥980/month | — |

* Tax incl. Pophie offers only annual plans in US dollars; there is no monthly payment. One "conversation" on Poketomo is one round trip from you speaking to Poketomo replying. "—" marks items for which we could not find an official listing.
Poketomo costs "about ¥1.2 per conversation." When does unlimited pay off?
The three count-based plans all cost about ¥1.24 per conversation (¥495 ÷ 400)—the same unit price. At this rate, the unlimited plan (¥3,300) pays off at about 2,667 or more per month, or about 89 or more conversations a day.
* Estimates calculated by the editorial team from the official prices and counts (based on 30 days). Even the unlimited plan is, under its terms, unlimited within the scope of normal use.
Care plans (repair coverage): price gaps and what they include

The more expensive the model, the more a premium plan centers on repair and checkup coverage. We lined up the price gaps and what each gap actually changes.
| Model | Plans and prices | Coverage added at higher tiers |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum ¥9,900/month / Basic ¥12,980/month / Full Cover ¥19,800/month | Treatment cost coverage goes 1/3 → 2/3 → full (with a cap). LOVOT Dock (about once every 2 years): ¥59,400 → ¥29,700 → free. Servo motor replacement (about once every 4 years): ¥138,600 → ¥69,300 → free | |
| Optional aibo Care Support: ¥59,400 for 3 years / ¥22,000 for 1 year | During the term, repairs and the standard aibo Dock inspection are half price, with no limit on the number of times | |
| Light ¥19,800/year (¥1,980/month) / Anshin (Peace of Mind) ¥69,980/year | The Anshin plan includes care for hospital treatment (normally ¥39,800 each), health checkups (normally ¥49,800 each) and "body refresh" (normally ¥12,980 each) | |
| Basic from ¥1,100/month + optional care plan ¥550/month | Treatment costs are half price, NICOBO Dock (normally ¥10,000) is ¥3,500 off, and knit cover replacement (normally ¥13,000) is ¥4,500 off | |
| Care Plan 50 ¥1,320/month / 70 ¥2,200/month (¥550 / ¥770 for the Lite model) | Discounts on repair fees (up to 3 times a year). The ¥2,530 repair shipping fee is paid by the user | |
| Optional Club Moflin ¥6,600/year | 50% off hospitalization (repairs) (e.g., battery replacement ¥15,400 → ¥7,700), free data recovery (normally ¥5,500), half-price shampoo and blow-dry |

* Tax incl., as shown on each manufacturer's official website (checked October 12, 2026). LOVOT has a campaign until October 25 in which Full Cover Care is ¥12,980 for 6 months (¥19,800 from the 7th month). NICOBO's care plan can only be joined under conditions such as within 100 days of purchase.
Where to buy the main models
NICOBO's care plan must be joined within 100 days of purchase (or within 30 days of a health certificate being issued), and RoBoHoN's care plan for the Lite model can only be joined together with the Kokoro Plan and cannot be rejoined after cancellation. If you're unsure, consider it at the time of purchase.
Paid options that add features
Some models offer options that let you add only the features you want, separate from the base plan.
¥16,500/year or ¥1,628/month. Unlocks "aibo Patrol," which patrols around your home, and exclusive behaviors. It cannot be canceled mid-term and renews automatically.
The AI conversation app, house-sitting app and "Sing with Me" app are ¥330/month each, and the plus plan of the Robo Days app is ¥550/month. These are added on top of the Kokoro Plan (from ¥1,078/month).
¥1,700/month. Adds natural conversation and the ability to remember family members' voices and what was said. Basic features such as weather and alarms are free.
US$9.9 / US$24.9 per month. Chat and voice commands are unlimited on every plan; higher tiers increase the number of uses of assistant functions such as schedule management and email.
How much cheaper is paying annually or in a lump sum?

If you've decided to use it for a long time, some models let you lower the total cost with annual or lump-sum payment.
* Estimates calculated by the editorial team from official tax-incl. prices. aibo = ¥3,278/month × 36 vs. ¥99,000 lump sum / KATA Friends = Light Plan ¥1,980/month × 12 vs. ¥19,800/year / Romi = ¥1,958/month × 12 vs. ¥19,580/year.
KATA Friends also offers a one-time purchase plan (¥98,200). Compared with the Light Plan's annual payment (¥19,800), it breaks even in about 5 years (¥98,200 ÷ ¥19,800 ≈ 4.96 years). On the other hand, Poketomo and RoBoHoN are monthly only, with no annual payment.
With Romi, there is no refund or carryover even if you pause or cancel partway through an annual plan. KATA Friends' Kurashi (Daily Life) Plan also cannot be refunded once activated.
What to know before changing or canceling a plan

- If you cancel aibo's Basic Plan partway through the 3-year monthly payment term, you pay an early cancellation fee (¥500/month × remaining months) plus a ¥10,780 cancellation charge
- If you cancel NICOBO's Basic Plan within 12 months, it costs ¥11,000
- The aibo Premium Plan cannot be canceled during the term
- After KATA Friends' 15-day free period, without a plan it goes into a dormant state.
- Switching KATA from Light to Anshin takes effect on the day after the current term ends.
- Fuzozo's Premium and Pophie's paid plans have no automatic renewal. To continue, you buy again
8-item checklist before upgrading your plan
Open the pricing page and terms of use for the model you use (or plan to use), and check off each item you were able to confirm. Any unchecked items are things you still need to look into before changing plans.
